Hey there! My name is Rodney Carrero-Vila. I am a second year returning member to the GCE chapter at FIU. I am native to Dominican Republic so the moment I heard about GCE I fell in love with the plan and goal. The goal is basically to help out disadvantage children working on the streets of Santiago, Dominican Republic. They are not street kids, they are just kids who work and live off the streets. It is important I make that distinction because in our society we see beggars on street corners and feel pity for them. So, we throw money at the situation, driving away feeling a little better about ourselves. In all cases this should never be done but I want to place a spotlight on the children we work with because throwing money at these homeless, mostly orphaned children will do nothing but destroy them. GCE works hard to change that by individually working with the children and giving these children dignity. There is no dignity in begging, but there is in hard work. GCE promotes hard work in all of these children's aspects of life because only through hard work and confidence gained from dignity and self worth is what can transform these children into functional citizens in their society.

GCE supports a non-profit organization in Santiago called Accion Callejera (translated to Action on the Streets) and they make all this happen. This is the organization that is there every day for these children. They are the ones who run the show, GCE is basically the organization who goes to work with Accion Callejera to focus on a certain aspect of life. For example: last year we had different teachings and activities which had to do with hygiene and the importance to be clean. GCE goes to give these kids hope and actually comes back to the States enriched and full of hope. If you support GCE, you will see the fruits of what we learn from these children. Invest in us because we will not only be going to help these children who deserve a better life than what they have now but well will bring back lessons learned and a new prescriptive of life which we translate to society by our actions and words. And trust me when I tell you, we will be talking about our experience for years to come, I still bring it up today in all sorts of discussions. These kids need our help, they need hope. Support us and I especially promise, that your donation will go straight to the children. GCE nor Accion Callejera take any profit from this. All donations go straight to the children and their needs.

This cause makes sense. It's the logical organization to support because we are truly making a difference and you will see it through us. I can give you an entire speech on how this organization works and is successful but I have to cut my time short. Please help us, help the kids, and make a difference in another's life.
