Every year during spring break, Global Community Engagement sponsors projects for high school, and college students in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Consider trading in your spring break for a truly meaningful experience working with underprivileged children in a developing nation. You’ll teach reading, math, art, photography and things like papermaking and basic computer literacy to young children who otherwise have few educational opportunities. You can even design your own educational programming to share with the children! All this while earning community service learning hours.
This years Alternative Spring Break service dates are:
Saturday, March 27th - Sunday, April 4th 2010 (Collier County, FL Spring Break)

Our projects introduce participants from the developed world to the lives and realities of underprivileged children growing up in the Dominican Republic. Participants get the opportunity to play with and teach children, aged 5 to 17, many of whom live on the streets of the city struggling to make a few cents a day. We invite you to join us for one week, in the Dominican Republic, providing educational and health programming to the children. You will also have the opportunity to visit some of the cultural and historical sites in and around
The group you travel with will spend one week (Saturday through Sunday) in the Dominican Republic; mornings will be spent working with the children, afternoons visiting various sites of interest in and around the city, and early evenings we will engage in reflection activities that will provide context and the chance to share your impressions and concerns with your group.
